SIANOK CANYON

Just a few blocks from our hotel in Bukittinggi, the beautiful Sianok Canyon is a favorite spot for tourists.  From a scenic overlook, one can see down the canyon for several miles in both directions.  Deciding to strike out on my own for the afternoon, I hired a guide (a friend of Arman's named Ujang) to lead me on a hike through the canyon.  To get down to the river from the scenic overlook, we passed through a series of tunnels (the Japanese Tunnel is a massive excavation used by the Japanese to hide troops and munitions during WW II), roads, and paths.

 

 

After the first mile or so, there was no longer any semblance of a trail, so we waded back and forth across the river to whichever side had the best river bank.  Eventually there was no river bank (just a narrow gorge) and we travelled down the center of the river, which was generally about one to three feet deep, feeling for rocks and dropoffs with our feet and bracing ourselves against the current.

When we reached the point where there's normally a path out of the gorge to the plateau and rice paddies above, we discovered that the route was impassable because of the water depth and strength of the current.  So, we backtracked to a point about a mile down the river, and scrambled up the steep canyon wall (thick bamboo, slippery mud, wet leaves).   Ujang removed his sandals and had better traction barefoot than I did with my hiking boots.

 

Then we had to walk back to a highway which we followed for a few miles to the rim of the canyon, with the town (and hotel) on the far side.  Here there was a decent path back down to the river, with a precarious suspension footbridge to cross, and then a short walk back to the hotel.  It was a fun and spectacular afternoon.

4.      Mulailah topik pembicaraan yang menyenangkan. For example : tentang keadaan cuaca waktu kamu sedang berbicara, tentang berita yang lagi panas-panasnya atau tentang sebuah film yang lagi booming.

5.       Jangan memonopoli pembicaraan. Biarkan Bule yang kamu ajak bicara selesai dengan pernyataannya baru kemudian kamu masuk dengan pertanyaan atau pernyataan yang baru.

6.      Bila kamu kurang paham dengan statement yang baru saja kamu dengar, katakanlah “Sorry” dengan nada untuk meminta penjelasan. Hal tersebut akan lebih baik jika dibandingkan dengan berkata “Excuse me”. Karena dengan berkata “excuse me” situasi dan kondisinya kurang cocok.

7.       Bila kamu membutuhkan nomor telepon atau email bule yang lagi kamu dekati ( yaa.. siapa tau tuh bule CAKEP dan dia juga kriteria kamu banget ), mintalah dengan cara yang halus dan sopan. Bila ia bertanya “For what ?”, jelaskan alasanmu dengan simple dan jelas. Next, jangan lupa bilang “Thank you so much” jika kamu sudah mendapatkan apa yang kamu inginkan.

Serial Glee

Glee is a musical comedy-drama television series that airs on Fox in the United States. It focuses on the high school glee club New Directions competing on the show choir competition circuit, while its members deal with relationships, sexuality and social issues. The initial main cast encompassed club director and Spanish teacher Will Schuester (Matthew Morrison), cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch), guidance counselor Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays), Will's wife Terri (Jessalyn Gilsig), and eight club members played by Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz. For the second season, formerly recurring cast members Mike O'Malley, Heather Morris and Naya Rivera were promoted to the main cast.

The series was created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who first conceived Glee as a film. The three write all of the show's episodes and Murphy and Falchuk serve as the show's main directors. The pilot episode was broadcast on May 19, 2009, and the first season aired from September 9, 2009 to June 8, 2010. The second season began airing on September 21, 2010, and a third season has been commissioned. Glee features on-screen performance-based musical numbers that are selected by Murphy, who aims to maintain a balance between show tunes and chart hits. Songs covered in the show are released through the iTunes Store during the week of broadcast, and a series of Glee albums have been released by Columbia Records. The music of Glee has been a commercial success, with over twenty-one million digital single sales and nine million album sales. The series' merchandise also includes DVD and Blu-ray releases, a young adult book series, an iPad application, and a karaoke game for the Wii.

The series features numerous song covers sung onscreen by the characters. Murphy is responsible for selecting all of the songs used, and strives to maintain a balance between chart hits and show tunes, as: "I want there to be something for everybody in every episode. That's a tricky mix, but that's very important — the balancing of that." Song choices are integral to script development, with Murphy explaining: "Each episode has a theme at its core. After I write the script, I will choose songs that help to move the story along." For the second season, a shift toward using more Top 40 songs was seen, in an effort to appeal more to the 18–49 demographic.

Murphy was surprised at the ease with which use of songs was approved by the record labels approached, and explained: "I think the key to it is they loved the tone of it. They loved that this show was about optimism and young kids, for the most part, reinterpreting their classics for a new audience."A minority of those approached refused to allow their music to be used, including Bryan Adams, Guns N' Roses and Coldplay; however, in June 2010, Coldplay reversed their decision, allowing Glee the rights to their catalog. Adams posted on his Twitter account that the producers of Glee had never requested permission from him and urged them to "pick up the phone". Composer and musician Billy Joel offered many of his songs for use on the show, and other artists have offered use of their songs for free. A series of Glee soundtrack albums have been released through Columbia Records. Songs featured on the show are available for digital download through iTunes up to two weeks before new episodes air, and through other digital outlets and mobile carriers a week later.

Glee is choreographed by Zach Woodlee and features four to eight production numbers per episode.Once Murphy selects a song, rights are cleared with its publishers by music supervisor P. J. Bloom, and music producer Adam Anders rearranges it for the Glee cast. Numbers are pre-recorded by the cast, while Woodlee constructs the accompanying dance moves, which are then taught to the cast and filmed. Studio recordings of tracks are then made. The process begins six to eight weeks before each episode is filmed, and can end as late as the day before filming begins. Each episode costs at least $3 million to produce, and can take up to 10 days to film as a result of the elaborate choreography. In late 2010, Bloom reported the process has been even shorter; "as quick as a few weeks". For the second season, the creators were offered listens of upcoming songs in advance by publishers and record labels, with production occurring even before song rights are cleared.

Taylor Lautner

Taylor Daniel Lautner (born February 11, 1992) is an American actor, voice actor, model, and martial artist. As a child, Lautner took up martial arts and was ranked number one in his category by the American Sports Karate Association. Lautner soon thereafter began his acting career, appearing in bit roles in comedy series such as The Bernie Mac Show (2003) and My Wife and Kids (2004), before having voice roles in television series like What's New, Scooby-Doo? (2005) and Danny Phantom (2005). In 2005, he appeared in the film, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, and starred in The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D.

Lautner was born on February 11, 1992 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Deborah and Daniel Lautner.^[2] His mother works for a software development company, while his father is a Midwest Airlines pilot.^[2][3] He has one younger sister named Makena.^[2] Raised as a Roman Catholic,^[4][5] Lautner is of mixed German, French, and Dutch heritage, and has "distant" Native American ancestry (specifically Ottawa and Potawatomi) through his mother.^[6][7] Lautner grew up in Hudsonville, Michigan, a suburb of Grand Rapids.^[8]
As a child, he took up his first karate class at Fabiano's Karate the age of six.^[2] A year later, he attended his national karate tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, where he met Mike Chat, the founder of extreme martial arts. Chat invited Lautner to a camp he held at University of California, Los Angeles.^[2] Lautner trained with Chat for several years, earning his black belt by the age of eight, and winning several junior world championships.^[8] He appeared in an ISKA karate event televised on ESPN in 2003 that was later lampooned on the sports-comedy show Cheap Seats that first aired in 2006.^[9]
Chat, who once portrayed the Blue Ranger in Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, suggested to Lautner that he take up acting.^[2] For a few years, the Lautners flew from Michigan to Los Angeles for auditions when his talent agency called, and returned to Grand Rapids for school sometimes the same day.^[2] Lautner balanced karate and acting with being on the football and baseball teams at his school, and taking up jazz and hip-hop dance.^[10] After that became tiring, Lautner and his family decided to move to California for a month, to try it out, before moving to Santa Clarita, California permanently in 2002.^[2][10]

In an interview, Lautner stated that when he was younger he was bullied because he was an actor.^[14] He commented, "I just had to tell myself I can't let this get to me. This is what I love to do. And I'm going to continue doing it."^[14] Lautner has an intricate workout plan, which was covered by Men's Health, and has a specific diet after developing his body for The Twilight Saga: New Moon.^[3] In addition, he still practices and trains in martial arts regularly.^[3][14] He has stated that he is drug and alcohol free.^[14]
Lautner resides in Valencia, California with his parents and younger sister.^[3] The actor also stated that he enjoys the small-town feel in Valencia, which is a planned community of Santa Clarita, California, in Los Angeles County, where Mitchel Musso and Ashley Tisdale also reside.^[3] Although it only cuts down on a few, Lautner has stated he prefers living in the town because it is not as paparazzi-heavy.^[3] Lautner has said that he has never thought of moving out on his own yet, stating, "The thing I love is that my home life hasn't changed. I still help out with the garbage. I still help out with the lawn."^[3] He owns a BMW 5 series, which have tinted windows for obscurity.^[3]
In 2009, Lautner was linked romantically to American country pop singer Taylor Swift and American actress and pop singer Selena Gomez. Between April and May 2009, Lautner was rumored to be in a relationship with Gomez after they were spotted numerous times together, however nothing was confirmed.^[48] By June 2009 the duo had reportedly broken up.^[49] Reportedly, Lautner and Swift began dating in October 2009 after meeting on the set of their film, Valentine's Day.^[50] The pair insinuated a relationship during separate episodes as hosts of Saturday Night Live.^[50] It was revealed that they broke up in December 2009, with sources citing lack of chemistry and deciding they were better friends.^[50] Other sources said that Lautner was more interested than Swift,^[50] and others said that the romance was overblown and not serious from the start.^[51] The song "Back to December" from Swift's third album, Speak Now, is rumored to be an apology to Lautner.^[51] The first time Swift has apologized in a song, she said it was about a person who deserved the song, further commenting, "This is about a person who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship, and I was really careless with him."^[51] Media pointed out the song had blatant references to Lautner, with Swift referring to her former significant other as tanned skinned, with a "sweet smile."^[52]
